TAFISA is proud to announce the signature of a letter of intent with new EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics, rewarding TAFISA’s constant and growing commitment in the development of the European Week of Sport as well as promotion of the social role of sport, particularly in relation to health and physical activity. The signing ceremony, that took place at the EU Sport Forum in Milan, Italy, on the 1st of December 2014, gathered more than 300 European stakeholders and deepened an already strong collaboration between TAFISA and the European Commission. Engaged since July 2014 in the Advisory Board of the European Week of Sport, TAFISA is indeed one of the twelve pioneer organizations that contribute to its inception and launch on the 2nd week of September 2015. In the context of this co-operation, TAFISA will:

  1. Actively communicate about the European Week of Sport across its network and encourage its European members to participate in it.
  2. Aim to organise its existing programmes during the European Week of Sport 2015;
  3. Offer the 24th TAFISA World Congress in Budapest, Hungary, October 14th – 18th 2015 as a platform to evaluate, share ideas and discuss about the European Week of Sport 2015.

Besides, TAFISA was pleased to learn on the 5th of December 2014 that its project to establish a toolbox for the European Week of Sport was ed for funding by the EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency. This initiative, that will start on the 1st of January 2015, will gather the following partners for a full year of works:

  • Greek Ministry of Culture and Sport
  • Netherlands Institute of Sport and Physical Activity

The two-days EU Sport Forum was also the opportunity for TAFISA to present its current EU-funded project “Recall: Games of the Past – Sports for Today” to the participants, as well as the results of its SportCityNet project, that was co-funded by the European Commission, Ball Packaging Europe and Suomen Kunto and ended up in June 2014 with the launch of the SportCityNetwork, as part of Triple AC, and the publication of the SportCityNet toolkit, containing:

  • A description of the 5 Key Success Areas to become an Active City,
  • A set of good practices,
  • A step-by-step approach to establish an Active City strategy.

TAFISA feels honored to be considered as a number one partner by the European Commission Sport Unit, and strongly believes in the process that started over the past few months and fosters the strengthening of dialogue between policy makers and the sports sector towards the promotion of Sport for All and physical activity Europe-wide.
