By report of Ms. Maria Teresa Asuncion chairperson of WOF Women Committee and coordinator of SEA O-Sport Federation, The resounding success of the PALABAN O-Sport National Competitions at the PFVR Gym in Baguio City, Philippines finally marks the first step in the unification efforts of all martial arts groups in the Philippines.
Taking the lead among the participating martial arts disciplines is the O- Sport Style, an internationally recognized technique being promoted by the event’s proponent and organizer, the National O-Sport Federation- Philippines (NOFP).
Coinciding with this event is NOFP's National Championship Event tagged as PALABAN. Just like the rest of the disciplines that showed their respective styles, the O-Sport athletes also displayed to the ecstatic audience the different fighting techniques for AKSAYA , AGMATANO and AHMATAN during the culminating competitions (8 bouts per style) for both junior and senior levels with several weight divisions.
In partnership with the World O-Sport Federation (WOF), Shanfari Group of Companies, Black Stallion Martial Arts, Events Professionals and the recently formed Philippine Martial Arts Games Committee (PMAGC) , said major event not just provided the participating martial arts groups a venue to share their respective styles and disciplines thru an exhibition/demonstration and by way of simultaneous competitions, but more importantly, it formalizes the gracious efforts of NOFP Founder/President Maria Teresa Asuncion to organize and unify the martial arts sector in the Philippines.
Prior to the staging of the event, PMAGC is already formed under the leadership of O-Sport Phil. President, Ms. Maria Teresa Asuncion. This is the official body composed of the heads of the different martial arts groups (Taekwondo, Karate, Arnis, Wu Shu, Aikido, Judo and Muay Thai) who also believe in the president’s visions and objectives for the unification of martial arts sector in our country. Forming this group is one clear manifestation that most, if not all, groups also want to see a united martial arts sector to integrate and solidify the efforts of uplifting the sport and the welfare of the Filipino martial artists.
The event’s success was made possible by the support of Congressman Bernardo Vergara, Mayor Mauricio Domogan, and the City Council members as well as all the media and event partners and sponsors.
